Subject: Proposal for the Flipped Our Script Community Job Transition Initiative
Dear Community Leader,
I am writing to introduce Flipped Our Script, a community-centered initiative designed to explore practical ways to reduce unnecessary commuting, strengthen local communities, improve quality of life, and support environmental sustainability.
Every day, qualified employees travel long distances to perform work similar to work available closer to where they live. At the same time, other qualified workers may make equally long commutes in the opposite direction. When practical and voluntary, helping people discover comparable opportunities closer to home may reduce travel time, transportation costs, congestion, stress, and emissions.
Flipped Our Script is not intended to replace existing employment systems or force anyone to change careers. It is designed to encourage collaboration among employees, employers, workforce organizations, labor representatives, and communities while respecting qualifications, seniority, pay, benefits, contracts, and operational needs.
We propose beginning with a carefully designed pilot program. The pilot could identify suitable job categories, establish privacy and eligibility standards, measure commuting reductions, gather participant feedback, and evaluate benefits for workers, employers, transportation systems, and the environment.
We would welcome an opportunity to discuss whether a pilot program or partnership could be explored within your organization or community.
Thank you for your consideration and for your commitment to the people you serve.
Respectfully,
John Flemings
Founder, Flipped Our Script
